To mark its 100th anniversary, the Museum of East Asian Art presents a choice selection of its collection of historical photographs for the first time. The routes travelled to Asia by nineteenth-century globetrotters are brought to life by 350 rare photographs. The photographs’ painterly beauty testifies to the high artistic standard of the early photo pioneers; it also, however, makes the irretrievable loss of ancient, evolved cultures clear.
