The photo artist Martin Claßen takes us with him down into the crypt of the Capuchin monastery in Palermo, where corpses mummified over centuries are entombed. His images provide a contemporary record of man’s helpless attempt to hold on to the body and wrest it from mortality. Claßen studied artistic photography under Arno Jansen. The Villa Massimo fellowship holder has taken part in exhibitions at Museum Ludwig and at the SK Stiftung Kultur Köln am others.
