Ute Grünewald’s conceptual series of photos documents the ghost villages of the Rhineland coal mining district, left behind in perfect order. The careful comparison of identical houses, doors and windows discloses the monotony of an architecture that tells of order through uniformity and of the neat living and dying of a village community.
